Modern Cloth Nappies Information

There are many different styles of modern cloth nappies. The main types are:

* All In One (AIO)

* All In Two (AI2)

* Fitted

* Pocket

*Cover/Wrap

ALL IN ONE

AIO's are a one piece nappy, which are as easy to use as a disposbale nappy. They have a waterproof outer, and absorbent inner layers. There is no need to snap or stuff you nappy with soakers or inserts. Because of there ease of use, they are a popular choice (especially for dad's and care givers). The main disadvantage of AIO nappies, is they generally have a longer drying time than AI2 or pocket nappies. AIO nappies come in a variety of fabrics (PUL, Minkee) and closure styles (snaps, velcro)

ALL IN TWO

AI2 nappies are similar to an AIO, but the soaker or absorbent part of the nappy is able to be taken out of the shell or outer part. This means they have a faster drying time than AIO nappies. You are often able to purchase extra soaker sets for your AI2 nappies, making them even more economical. Again AI2 nappies come in a variety of both fabric & closure options.

FITTED

Fitted nappies come in either an AIO or AI2 style, but DO NOT have a waterproof layer built in to them. This means you need to use a cover over them for complete waterproofness.

 

POCKET

Pocket nappies come in 2 parts. The waterproof outer, which contains a pocket opening, and the absorbent inners, which you placde inside the pocket. Pocket nappies are popular, as you are able to customise the absorbency of the nappies to suit. There are many inner soaker options, from quick drying microfibre, to natural bamboo.

 

Cover/Wrap

A seperate waterproof outer, which goes on top of an absorbent nappy, eg a fitted nappy, or prefold.
